Amy Carter, Rosalynn Carter Funeral: Jimmy Carter Mourns the Loss of His Wife and Daughter

Jimmy Carter is mourning the loss of his wife and daughter.

The former president and first lady were married for 73 years, and their daughter, Amy, died at the age of 59.

Carter released a statement on Sunday, saying, "Rosalynn and I are deeply saddened by the death of our daughter, Amy. We appreciate the many kind words and condolences that have been extended to us."

He continued, "Amy was a beautiful, gracious, and loving person who always put the needs of others first. She was an advocate for the poor and disadvantaged, and a champion for peace and human rights. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her."

Amy Carter died on April 22, at her home in Atlanta, after a long battle with cancer.

She is survived by her husband, James Earl Carter, Jr., and their children, Jack, Jennifer, and Jeremy.
